A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR SHIRLEY ANNE GLENN DAVIS FOR HER SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS TO EDUCATION IN RICHLAND COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT ONE AND TO COMMEND HER INDUCTION INTO THE RICHLAND ONE HALL OF FAME.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to learn that Shirley Anne Glenn Davis has been posthumously honored with induction into the Richland One Hall of Fame for her outstanding service to education by Richland County School District One; and

Whereas, established in 2004, Richland One Hall of Fame honors persons, living or deceased, who have made significant contributions to the district, their communities, their professions, or society as a whole; and

Whereas, a graduate of Hopkins High School, Shirley Davis served with dedication and commitment on the Richland Board of School Commissioners from 1992 to 2000; and

Whereas, she devoted herself to service as a voice for children with special needs and underserved children and their families, and she was the founder and chief executive officer of Beyond the Door Outreach Ministry; and

Whereas, as a result of her own battle with cancer, Ms. Davis founded the "Why You, Why Me" support group for African-American women with breast cancer who struggle to cope with the disease. She passed away on August 9, 2009; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate honors the profound legacy of those, like Shirley Anne Glenn Davis, who give of their time and talents to promote the education of young people in the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Shirley Anne Glenn Davis for her significant contributions to education in Richland County School District One and commend her induction into the Richland One Hall of Fame.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to children of Shirley Anne Glenn Davis.
