A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE WESTMINSTER TOWERS AT THE CELEBRATION OF ITS TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY IN JUNE 2014 AND TO COMMEND THE ORGANIZATION FOR THE EXCELLENCE OF ITS SENIOR CARE.

Whereas, known for its outstanding and successful service of seniors, Westminster Towers owns an enviable reputation that has spread across York County and beyond. The institution, now celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary, is planning strategic changes that will enable it to continue serving its seniors well for the next twenty-five years of its history; and

Whereas, Westminster Presbyterian Center, Inc. (Westminster Towers), was established for the purpose of operating a nonprofit, church-sponsored, Christian retirement and healthcare center for Westminster Presbyterian Church of Rock Hill, as well as for the larger community. What began as a vision in the early 1970s became reality in June 1989 as Westminster Towers opened its doors for its first residents, those who may have retired from work, but not from life; and

Whereas, in 1997, Westminster Towers became the first retirement community in South Carolina to be accredited by the national Continuing Care Accreditation Commission and remains one of the approximately sixteen percent nationally that are accredited today through CARF-CCAC; and

Whereas, in July 2001, construction of a replacement for the skilled nursing/rehabilitation center was completed to include twenty-two additional beds. This project received national design awards and remains a beautiful addition to the campus of services. Today, the community offers one hundred thirty-eight independent-living apartments, twenty-nine assisted-living suites, twenty-two Medicare-certified short-term rehabilitation rooms, and forty-four long-term care rooms; and

Whereas, the manor's renovations being completed, the current twenty-nine-apartment structure of assisted living is finished; and

Whereas, in 2008, two new programs were added to the list of support services, the Campus Home Health Program, which assists residents with support of clinical services while they remain in independent apartments, and HomeBridge, which provides services to York County residents who wish to remain in their homes and have a support system of services; and

Whereas, Westminster Towers was named in June 2012 as one of the "Top Retirement Communities" in the region by the Charlotte Business Journal, and in October 2012 it received the State of South Carolina's first "Person-Centered Care" national accreditation through the CARF-CCAC; and

Whereas, in July 2013, Westminster Towers added a new four-thousand-square-foot wellness extension with sauna and in October 2013 it was voted by local Herald newspaper readers as their Readers' Choice Award for "Best Senior/Retirement Community"; and

Whereas, currently, new interior refurbishments are underway across campus, and an expansion of dining services will include a relocated Bistro and Wellness Center expansion; and

Whereas, the Senate takes great pleasure in recognizing Westminster Towers on the occasion of its twenty-fifth anniversary, and the members wish this respected institution much continued success. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Westminster Towers at the celebration of its twenty-fifth anniversary in June 2014 and commend the organization for the excellence of its senior care.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Westminster Towers.
