VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE HONORABLE RALPH ANDERSON FOR HIS YEARS OF DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AND FOR HIS SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS IN THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY DURING HIS NOTEWORTHY PUBLIC CAREER.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to learn that the Honorable Ralph Anderson will be honored for his illustrious career of public service on Sunday, April 14, 2013, by the Greenville Democratic Party; and
Whereas, a graduate of Allen University, he served his country with distinction in the United States Army as a non-commissioned officer from 1950 to 1952; and
Whereas, Ralph Anderson retired in 1983 after thirty-one years of dedicated service to the United States Postal Service first in Greenville, then in Clemson, and finally in Greer; and
Whereas, from 1983 to 1991, he served his community as an elected member of the Greenville City Council; and
Whereas, he served with unwavering integrity in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1991 to 1996 before being elected to represent the citizens of District 7 in Greenville County in the Senate where he faithfully served for sixteen years; and
Whereas, he was the primary sponsor of the South Carolina Hospital Infections Disclosure Act which has saved countless lives and significantly reduced healthcare costs in the State while improving the quality of life for all South Carolinians; and
Whereas, in 2011, the Southern Health Association (SHA) and the North Carolina Public Health Association presented Senator Anderson with the SHA Outstanding Legislator Award for support of legislation that has benefitted public health in South Carolina, and in 2009, he received the South Carolina Public Health Association Douglas E. Bryant Legislator of the Year Award; and
Whereas, a Third Degree Mason and a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, he has served his community in numerous capacities, such as on the Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce, the Greenville Civil Service Commission, the Greenville Branch NAACP, the Phyllis Wheatley Board of Directors, the Board of Directors of BB&T Greenville Regional, and the Board of Trustees for St. Anthony's Catholic School in Greenville; and
Whereas, he has garnered numerous awards for dedication to his community, including the 1986 NAACP's W. F. Gibson Freedom Fighter Award, Alpha Phi Alpha's Dr. Martin Luther King Award, and Greenville Urban League's Whitney Young Humanitarian Award; and
Whereas, together with his beloved wife, Geraldine Lewis Anderson, he reared three fine children, who have blessed their parents with ten adoring grandchildren; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are grateful for the legacy of devoted public service that Ralph Anderson has selflessly given to the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Honorable Ralph Anderson for his years of distinguished service and for his significant contributions in the South Carolina General Assembly during his noteworthy public career.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Ralph Anderson.
