VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE APRIL 22, 2015 AS EARTH DAY AND TO ACKNOWLEDGE SCIENTIFIC PROOF OF CLIMATE CHANGE.
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina are pleased to learn that Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd each year; and
Whereas, climate scientists agree that climate-warming over the past century is real. Most of the leading scientific organizations worldwide have issued public statements endorsing this position; and
Whereas, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change stated in 2001 that climate change is real and that "while there will always be uncertainty in understanding a system as complex as the world's climate, there is now strong evidence that global warming is occurring"; and
Whereas, the American Association for the Advancement of Science stated in 2006 that scientific evidence is clear that global climate change is occurring now; and
Whereas, in 2013, the American Medical Association concurred with the scientific consensus that the Earth is undergoing global climate change. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives recognize April 22, 2015 as Earth Day and acknowledge scientific proof of climate change.
