VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE OREASE BROWN UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HIM A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are delighted to learn that Orease Brown will celebrate his one hundredth birthday on April 25, 2018; and
Whereas, one of eleven siblings, Orease Brown was born on April 25, 1918 to Eddie and Hattie Brown. A native and lifelong resident of Jasper County, he attended Jasper County public schools and became a landowner and farmer; and
Whereas, a veteran of World War II, Mr. Brown proudly served his country during the invasion of Europe under General George S. Patton; and
Whereas, as a civilian, Mr. Brown worked for twenty-eight years for the Artley Construction Company in Savannah, Georgia, where he was responsible for overseeing the company's daily activities. He also worked for Cyprus Creek Plantation, where he stayed for thirty-one years until his retirement in June 2015; and
Whereas, a champion of equality and justice, Mr. Brown was at the forefront of the fight to register voters. He freely volunteered his time to assist at the polls and completed poll manager's training in 1999. He is also a member of the local and national NAACP; and
Whereas, a devoted member of Saint Mary Baptist Church in Tarboro, he served as deacon and currently serves as chairman of the board. He was also a teacher of Sunday school classes and Bible School and the chairman of the Good Hope Baptist Deacon Union; and
Whereas, a freemason, Mr. Brown was elected and installed on December 14, 1982 as Worshipful Master of Evergreen Masonic Lodge No. 114 in Pineland. He has participated in numerous conferences and conventions throughout South Carolina and is involved in development programs for incoming brothers; and
Whereas, Mr. Brown is an active member of the Robertsville Senior Center and the Tarboro Community Center in Jasper County; and
Whereas, a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, Mr. Brown is a role model to his family and all those who know him. His contributions to his community and to his fellow citizens have made a special difference in the quality of his life and the lives of those he has touched; and
Whereas, the Senate is proud to honor this son of South Carolina at the celebration of his one hundredth birthday, and the members join with his family and friends in congratulating him on reaching this important life milestone. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Orease Brown upon the occasion of his one hundredth birthday and wish him a joyous birthday celebration and much happiness in the days ahead.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Orease Brown.
