TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MAMIE W. NICHOLSON, PROGRAM OFFICER WITH THE SELF FAMILY FOUNDATION IN GREENWOOD, AND TO EXPRESS SINCERE APPRECIATION FOR HER TWENTY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF LANDER COLLEGE.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are deeply grateful to Mamie W. Nicholson for her exemplary service on the Board of Trustees of Lander College for two decades from 1996 to 2016; and
Whereas, a native of Greenwood and a graduate of Greenwood High School, she earned degrees from Piedmont Technical College and Limestone College and began her career with the Self Family Foundation in Greenwood in 1977 when she was hired as an administrative assistant in the Human Resources Department; and
Whereas, for the last eighteen years, Mrs. Nicholson has served as Program Officer with the Self Family Foundation, a tenure that has given her extensive experience and valuable perspective in Southern philanthropy, along with her years of service to the community; and
Whereas, keenly concerned with programs affecting youth and senior citizens, she understands the need for communities to provide resources to assist the youth and the elderly in order for the community as a whole to thrive; and
Whereas, dedicated to lifelong learning, Mrs. Nicholson graduated from the Council on Foundations Institute, Leadership Greenwood, Furman University's Diversity Leaders Institute, and Leadership South Carolina; and
Whereas, she has served her community with devotion as a member of the Lander University Board of Trustees, the Greenwood County Community Foundation board, Eat Smart Move More Greenwood Advisory, and the Chamber of Commerce Women's Leadership Council, and as co-chair of the first Upstate Women's Leadership Conference Planning Committee; and
Whereas, she has served on the Self Regional Healthcare Board of Trustees; United Way as a board member, as a campaign chair, and as the board chair; the National Heritage Corridor board of directors; the Healthy Learners Greenwood advisory board; the Capital Bank Community advisory board; and Greenwood Rotary Club board of directors; and
Whereas, she is a member of the Southeastern Council of Foundations and of the Greenwood Rotary Club, where she has chaired a number of committees and is a Paul Harris Fellow; and
Whereas, together with her esteemed husband, the honorable Floyd Nicholson, our respected colleague in the General Assembly, she has reared three fine sons: Anthony, Antonio, and Michael. She and her family are members of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she serves as an usher, Sunday school teacher, and deaconess; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives is pleased to honor this daughter of South Carolina for her significant service on the Board of Trustees at Lander College, and the members wish her continued success in all her future endeavors. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Mamie W. Nicholson, Program Officer with the Self Family Foundation in Greenwood, and express sincere appreciation for her twenty years of dedicated service as a member of the Board of Trustees of Lander College.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mamie W. Nicholson.
