A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE INTERSECTION LOCATED AT THE JUNCTION OF UNITED STATES HIGHWAY 21 AND SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 160 IN YORK COUNTY "KARSON BAILEY WHITESELL MEMORIAL INTERSECTION" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS LOCATION CONTAINING THIS DESIGNATION.

Whereas, Ms. Karson Bailey Whitesell was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, the daughter of Debbie Ransom Whitesell and Jason Whitesell; and

Whereas, Karson was a faithful member of Illumine Church in Rock Hill where she was a shining light in a dark world; and

Whereas, she had a heart for service made evident from her mission work in Haiti, the continent of Africa, and throughout the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, on January 23, 2018, Karson was fatally killed while on duty working at the Peach Stand, a landmark in Fort Mill; and

Whereas, the Palmetto State grieves the senseless random killing that took the life of this young lady; and

Whereas, she will be remembered as the friendly, smiling face that greeted you at the Peach Stand and for her efforts to make the world a better place through her mission work; and

Whereas, it would be fitting and proper for the members of the General Assembly to forever pay tribute to the memory of this beautiful daughter of our great State by having the highway located adjacent to the Peach Stand named in honor of Karson. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, request the Department of Transportation name the intersection located at the junction of United States Highway 21 and South Carolina Highway 160 in York County "Karson Bailey Whitesell Memorial Intersection" and erect appropriate markers or signs at this location containing this designation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
