A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 44-53-361 SO AS TO PROHIBIT APPROVAL OF MARIJUANA FOR MEDICAL USE UNTIL APPROVED AS A SAFE AND EFFECTIVE DRUG AS PART OF A UNITED STATES FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION DRUG REVIEW PROCESS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Article 3, Chapter 53, Title 44 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 44-53-361.    Marijuana may only be approved for medical use if first approved as a safe and effective drug as part of a United States Food and Drug Administration drug review process."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
