TO AMEND ACT 612 OF 1984, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE METHOD OF CONDUCTING ELECTIONS FOR MEMBERS OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARDS OF TRUSTEES IN SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A VACANCY OCCURRING ON THE SPARTANBURG COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT 1 BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR ANY REASON OTHER THAN EXPIRATION OF A TERM MUST BE FILLED BY A SPECIAL ELECTION CONDUCTED BY THE COUNTY BOARD OF VOTER REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS FOR THE UNEXPIRED PORTION OF THE TERM AS PROVIDED IN SECTION 7-13-190.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 1(C) of Act 612 of 1984, as last amended by Act 111 of 2009, is further amended by adding an appropriately numbered item at the end to read:
"( ) Notwithstanding another provision of law or of this act, a vacancy occurring on the Spartanburg County School District 1 Board of Trustees for any reason other than expiration of a term must be filled by a special election conducted by the county board of voter registration and elections for the unexpired portion of the term as provided in Section 7-13-190."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
