A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR AZALEE FLOYD FOR HER MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PEOPLE AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Azalee Floyd; and

Whereas, a native of Clinton, Mrs. Floyd was born on September 28, 1942, the youngest of five children. She graduated Bell Street High School in May of 1960; and

Whereas, during her time at Bell Street High School, she was named All State performer for Band as a Saxophone. After graduating high school, Ms. Floyd graduated from Good Samaritan Waverly Nursing School in Columbia, where she received her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree; and

Whereas, upon receiving her degree, Mrs. Floyd began her career by briefly working at Bailey Hospital in Clinton. Approximately six months later, she received an opportunity to work at Greenville Memorial Hospital, where she worked until 1965; and

Whereas, after moving to New Bern, Mrs. Floyd started working at the labor and delivery department of Craven Hospital. Consequently, she received a recommendation to work in the Craven County Schools system from 1966-1973; and

Whereas, after working as a school nurse, Mrs. Floyd worked at Craven County Health Department from 1973 until her retirement in 1997; and

Whereas, while at the Health Department, Mrs. Floyd worked as Maternity Clinic Nurse, Child Health Nurse, and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Counselor; and

Whereas, over the years, Mrs. Floyd received a number of honors and awards, including Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Counselor of the Year in 1981; and

Whereas, Mrs. Floyd married Johnny Floyd of Laurens in the spring of 1964; and

Whereas, Mrs. Floyd's brother Wendell Turner is a veteran who died in 2006. Mrs. Floyd, her siblings, and her mom were on pins and needles when he was missing in action for six months during the Korean War. Mrs. Floyd's mantra has always been "Stay in Prayer!" By staying in prayer, God brought her brother, who had been missing in action for six months, safely home; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate greatly appreciate the dedication and commitment that Azalee Floyd has shown in serving the people and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Azalee Floyd for her many contributions to the people and the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Azalee Floyd.
