TO CONGRATULATE JOSEPH "JOEY" SAMUEL AVERY, JR. UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR OF LAURENS COUNTY, TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE YEARS AHEAD.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize Joseph "Joey" Samuel Avery, Jr. upon the occasion of his retirement as Emergency Management Director of Laurens County; and
Whereas, Mr. Avery is a graduate of Clinton High School, and he also attended Piedmont Tech and Limestone College; and
Whereas, a veteran of the United States Navy, Mr. Avery served the United States before working for the Muller Company and Van Dorn Plastics; and
Whereas, a civic leader, Mr. Avery served as President of the Laurens Exchange Club. He was also a member of the Laurens County Fair Association, the Palmetto Masonic Lodge, the Laurens County Shrine Club, the Hejaz Shrine Temple-Greenville, the Palmetto Military Academy Association, and the South Carolina National Guard Association; and
Whereas, Mr. Avery is a retired National Guardsman, and he currently serves on the Hall of Heroes board; and
Whereas, over the years, Mr. Avery has received a number of honors and awards, including being recognized by Ten at the Top as an Unsung Hero; and
Whereas, a devout Christian, Mr. Avery attends Rocky Springs Presbyterian Church; and
Whereas, Mr. Avery is married to Desiree Avery, and together, they have one son; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the passion and dedication that Mr. Avery has shown in serving the Laurens County community and the people and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Joseph (Joey) Samuel Avery, Jr. upon the occasion of his retirement as Emergency Management Director of Laurens County, commend him for his many years of dedicated service to the State of South Carolina, and wish him much happiness and fulfillment in the years ahead.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Joseph "Joey" Samuel Avery, Jr.
