VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF APOLONIA "POLLY" MANAGO PEARSON OF SUMTER COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER LOVING FAMILY AND HER MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Apolonia "Polly" Manago Pearson of Dalzell at the age of seventy-eight on Tuesday, March 9, 2021; and
Whereas, born in Calapacuan, Subic, Zambales, Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Patricio Manago and Rosalina Angel Manago. From a young age, she helped support her family there by working various jobs; and
Whereas, as she grew, Polly Pearson continued to show her determination and strength, raising her family in a foreign country. She even learned to drive a car during a blizzard in Minot, North Dakota, and worked for many years in food services; and
Whereas, although she never attended high school, she became a successful businesswoman and founder of the Fil-AM store on Peach Orchard Road in Sumter; and
Whereas, a kind-hearted, God-fearing woman of strong Catholic faith, she loved her family dearly, and emigrating Filipinos near and far found a new family member in Polly Pearson, and she helped many of them who now call this country home; and
Whereas, generous with her time, she volunteered with the DAV, VA, and her local church, and she enjoyed fellowship with her many friends, especially those in the Filipino community; and
Whereas, together with her beloved husband, the late Lee R. Pearson, she reared two fine children, Lee Ann Lawrence of Chapin and John E. Pearson of Easley. Her children blessed her with the affection of three grandchildren: Hannah Pearson, Dustin Lawrence, and Devin Lawrence; and
Whereas, although she was preceded in death by siblings Adelida, Rosalinda, and Angelito, she has left, in addition to her children and grandchildren, her siblings Julius Manago, Myrna Igma, Cezar Manago, and Freddie Manago, all of the Philippines, to cherish her memory, along with niece Angelita Angel of Reno, Nevada, and nephew Orly Manago Orlina of the Philippines; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is grateful for the life and legacy of Polly Pearson and for the example of determination and kindness she set for all who knew her. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Apolonia "Polly" Manago Pearson of Sumter County and extend their deepest sympathy to her loving family and her many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Lee Ann Lawrence for the family of Apolonia "Polly" Manago Pearson.
