A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF ELIZABETH SIMMONS "BETTY" TRAPP OF SUMTER AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Elizabeth Simmons "Betty" Trapp of Sumter on March 6, 2021, at the venerable age of eighty-seven; and

Whereas, born in Columbus, Ohio, Betty entered this world on March 21, 1933, and grew up in Columbia; and

Whereas, known for her kind disposition, giving nature, and hearty laugh, she was a committed Christian and a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Sumter, where she was an active member of her circle and the Bethany Sunday School Class. In addition, she was honored with a life membership in Presbyterian Women; and

Whereas, Betty's failing eyesight in recent years did not slow her down until a fall last July required that she move from independent living to assisted living in Covenant Place. She loved listening to sermons and audiobooks and was an avid bridge player until just a few years ago; and

Whereas, Betty cherished her family throughout their lives and doted on her grandchildren. The recent additions of great-grandchildren delighted her thoroughly, and she relished hearing about their every adventure; and

Whereas, predeceased by her husband, Marvin D. Trapp, and an infant daughter, Catherine Simmons Trapp, Betty leaves to cherish her memory her remaining children, Marvin Daniel Trapp, Jr. (Scottie) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Sallie Trapp Stafford (Steve) of Sumter, and David Bryan Trapp (Sylvia) of Sumter; her grandchildren, Simmons Trapp Purdy (Russ) and Catherine Trapp, Margaret Stafford Manders (Kelly) and Stephen Stafford (Katie), and Austin and Alexandria Trapp; her great-grandchildren, Francis, Jacquie, and Julia Purdy, Michael Manders, and Jackson Stafford. She will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Elizabeth Simmons "Betty" Trapp of Sumter and extend the deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Sallie Trapp Stafford for the family.
