VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE KEENAN HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2021 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is delighted to learn that the members of the Keenan High School girls basketball team clinched the top honors at the state championship title game, held on Friday, March 5, 2021, at the University of South Carolina Aiken Convocation Center; and
Whereas, Keenan High School fans were treated to a brilliant display of athletic prowess as the Raiders overcame Bishop England High School 62-55 to capture the South Carolina Class AAA State Championship title for the second consecutive year, earning the program's first back-to-back win; and
Whereas, in an incredibly tough game, the Raiders were pushed to maintain their mental fortitude and dominance over the court as Bishop England fought hard to overcome their slow start. Outscored in the second half, the Raiders mustered a gritty defensive effort to hold onto their lead as it shrank to a slim three-point differential. With the scoreboard sitting at 58-55 and only fifty-one seconds left on the clock, Keenan High School's MiLaysia Fulwiley stepped up to secure the victory for her team, sinking three free throws and shutting down the Bishops' potential comeback; and
Whereas, with this win, the Keenan High School girls basketball team now claims five championship titles and has been a contender in the championship game in five of the last six seasons. Led by Coach Reggie McLain, the Raiders have worked hard to elevate themselves into a program driven by the pursuit of excellence. Under his guidance, theses athletes have proven the effectiveness of their hard work and persistence, becoming powerful both offensively and defensively. With many important players returning next season, they look forward to continued success; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives value the pride and recognition that the Keenan High School Raiders have earned for their school and their community and look forward to hearing of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Keenan High School girls basketball team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2021 Class AAA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Vondre' T. Whaley and Coach Reggie McLain of Keenan High School.
