A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND DR. BOBBY DONALDSON FOR HIS DEDICATION TO IDENTIFYING AND PRESERVING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE STATE'S AFRICAN AMERICANS THROUGH SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA AFRICAN AMERICAN HERITAGE COMMISSION AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM ON RECEIVING THE JANNIE HARRIOT FOUNDERS AWARD FOR HIS UNWAVERING COMMITMENT TO THE GROWTH AND SUSTAINABILITY OF THE COMMISSION.

Whereas, those who give their lives to the betterment of their community deserve to be publicly recognized for their contributions in making the State as a whole a better place to live; and

Whereas, Dr. Bobby Donaldson stands high among such individuals, having devoted his life to uplifting others and enlightening them regarding the contributions of African Americans to the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, he has served the Palmetto State as a professor of history at the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, in addition, he serves as director of the University of South Carolina Center for Civil Rights History and Research and as the lead scholar for Columbia SC 63, a documentary project that examines the largely untold struggle for civil rights and social justice in Columbia and the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, at home, this native of Augusta, Georgia, is a husband and the father of a son and daughter; and

Whereas, further, because of his diligence in service, he was appointed to the South Carolina African American Heritage Commission as an ex officio member representing the University of South Carolina, and he has been named the recipient of the commission's Jannie Harriot Founders Award. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and commend Dr. Bobby Donaldson for his dedication to identifying and preserving the contributions of the state's African Americans through service as a member of the South Carolina African American Heritage Commission and congratulate him on receiving the Jannie Harriot Founders Award for his unwavering commitment to the growth and sustainability of the commission.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Bobby Donaldson.
