TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF OLIVER "BUG," "BLUE" PERRY, JR., OF FLORENCE COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS LARGE AND LOVING FAMILY AND HIS MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives was saddened to learn of the death of Oliver "Bug," "Blue" Perry, Jr., at the age of sixty-six on Sunday, August 28, 2022; and
Whereas, born on March 22, 1956, he was the fourth child of the five children born to the late Oliver Perry, Sr., and Mamie Lee Perry. As a child, Oliver was given the nicknames of "Bug" and "Blue" and he continued to answer to his childhood nicknames for the rest of his life; and
Whereas, he attended North Vista Elementary School, Williams Middle School, Wilson Junior High School, and Wilson High School, and he graduated from McClenaghan High School; and
Whereas, Mr. Perry earned a bachelor's degree in history from Morris College; and
Whereas, after twenty-eight years as a claims examiner, he retired from BlueCross BlueShield of Florence, where he enjoyed his work and his coworkers; and
Whereas, Mr. Perry was the past secretary and Past Master of Mt. Pisgah Lodge # 437 where he served faithfully for many years. He was a loyal, devoted, and compassionate member of Gamma Phi Gamma, Incorporated, and of United 74, Incorporated; and
Whereas, together with his beloved wife of thirty-seven years, Lavender Harrison Perry, he reared three fine children: Lamantha Perry Anthony, Octavian Perry, and Jasmin Perry. His children blessed him with the affection of eight loving and talented grandchildren; and
Whereas, a lifelong and faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church, Mr. Perry sang in the Gospel Choir, and when he sang his favorite, "There's Not a Friend like the Lowly Jesus," he loved the refrain that reminded him "No, Not One"; and
Whereas, his love of family and his love for the Lord, as well as his devotion to his community, will long be remembered; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Bug Perry and for the example of service and friendship he set for all who knew him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Oliver "Bug," "Blue" Perry, Jr., of Florence County and extend their deepest sympathy to his large and loving family and his many friends.
