VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE INTERCHANGE AT INTERSTATE 95 AND UNITED STATES HIGHWAY 178 IN DORCHESTER COUNTY "PATSY G. KNIGHT INTERCHANGE" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS LOCATION CONTAINING THE DESIGNATION.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to recognize the Honorable Patsy G. Knight for her many years of distinguished service to the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, Representative Knight believes strongly in personal involvement with her community, and her convictions led her to serve the people of Dorchester County and the State of South Carolina in several capacities; and
Whereas, from 2006 to 2018, she represented the citizens of Dorchester County, District 97, in the House of Representatives of this great State; and
Whereas, a civic leader, she also served as Dorchester County Treasurer from 1981 until 2006; and
Whereas, Representative Knight's views on public service are grounded in her commitment to her family, church, and community. As a resident of Dorchester County, she gained many skills necessary for her public service through her work in the community. She served as the owner and operator of Knight's Bookkeeping and Tax Service, where she learned the importance of budgeting and fiscal responsibility. She also brought this sound business approach to the operations of her family's convenience store, helping to establish and operate that business while at the same time managing the family farm; and
Whereas, a woman of deep faith, she is a member of Indian Field United Methodist Church, where she has served at various times as communications chair, treasurer, and member of the choir; and
Whereas, Representative Knight is devoted to her family and is a loving and doting grandmother; and
Whereas, it would be only fitting and proper to pay tribute to this daughter of South Carolina by naming a portion of road in the State in her honor. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, request that the Department of Transportation name the interchange at Interstate 95 and United States Highway 178 in Dorchester County "Patsy G. Knight Interchange" and erect appropriate markers or signs at this location containing the designation.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation and presented to our distinguished former colleague, the Honorable Patsy G. Knight.
