A house RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE Loris High School boys varsity basketball TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING Winning SEASON in Region V Class AAA.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the Loris High boys  basketball team finished the season with an 18-8 record; and

Whereas, the Loris Lions posted an undefeated 10-0 record in region play, and in their final 17 games, they were 16-1; and

Whereas, the Lions' defense averaged 12 steals per game for the season, held their opponents to under forty percent shooting and under twenty-five percent from the 3-point line, and outscored opponents by 170 points on the season; and

Whereas, the Loris offense boasted four players who scored twenty points or more in a game this season, seven who scored fifteen or more, and eleven who scored ten or more; and

Whereas, in the playoff run, Loris High Defeated Aynor High School 39-37, North Charleston High School 60-54, and Fox Creek High School 57-52; and

Whereas, this was the first season that the Loris High boys varsity basketball team had an appearance in the Lower State Championship game in the program's history. In this same season, the Loris football team made the Lower State Championship game, with twelve shared athletes between the two teams; and

Whereas, in the Lower State regional championship game, the Lions had an excellent game plan of speed and efficiency that seemed to outmatch their opponents' height advantage. Even though the teams were tied at the end of the third quarter, Loris lost the regional game by only 3 points; and

Whereas, Lions Jacobien Lewis, Nigel Miller, Khalid Sherman, and Jamarius Wilson were named All-Region players, and for the second time, Khalid Sherman was named an All-State player; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands speed, precision, and stamina, first-year Head Coach Andrew Eads and his skilled coaching staff capitalized on their own athletic ability and training to build a winning team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the courts; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the pride and enthusiasm that the Loris basketball players have brought to their school and their community, and the members look forward to hearing of their future success with the returning team members in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate the Loris High School boys varsity basketball team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season in Region V Class AAA.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Andrew Eads.
