A house RESOLUTION
TO CELEBRATE THE WALHALLA HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR CAPTURING THE 2025 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AND TO CONGRATULATE THE TEAM'S EXCEPTIONAL PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF ON A SUPERB SEASON.
Whereas, on a mission to take home the gold, the Walhalla High School girls basketball team capped a satisfying 24-3 record by netting the 2025 Class AAA State Championship title, trouncing Dillon 52-37 on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Florence Civic Center; and
Whereas, with the biggest prize in South Carolina high school girls basketball on the line, the Lady Razorbacks focused all their knowledge, skill, and determination, took to heart their coaches' exhortations, and came through like the champs they are. The result? They captured Walhalla's first-ever state championship in girls basketball and made school history. Closing the season in what was their twentieth straight victory, the Lady Razorbacks were led by junior forward Miley White, who collected a double-double with team highs in both points (14) and rebounds (13). Senior guard Annie Campbell added 13 points; junior guard Kami Roach had 10 points, nine rebounds, and seven steals; and senior forward G.G. Ortiz added nine points and 11 rebounds; and
Whereas, until the Lady Razorbacks' March 6 title win, no Walhalla team in any sport had brought home a state championship trophy since 1952. On Thursday night in Florence, that all changed. After taking control midway through the third quarter of the state title game, the top-ranked Lady Razorbacks never looked back as they held off third-ranked Dillon down the stretch and secured their first state crown; and
Whereas, to add further sweetness to a very sweet victory, Kami Roach was named Class AAA Player of the Year and was tapped for All-State for the third time, and G.G. Ortiz finished as an All-State honoree and North-South All-Star; and
Whereas, when the game was history, Head Coach Byron Wimphrie joined his players and staff in witnessing the fruit of their joint labors as the title trophy was hoisted; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing the young athletes of the Walhalla High School girls basketball team for leading with excellence both in the classroom and on the court, and the members expect to hear of continued great achievements in the years ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, celebrate the Walhalla High School girls basketball team for capturing the 2025 Class AAA State Championship title and congratulate the team's exceptional players, coaches, and staff on a superb season.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Jennifer Crawford and Head Coach Byron Wimphrie of Walhalla High School.
