A house RESOLUTION

 

TO CELEBRATE AWARD-WINNING PRODUCER, WRITER, AND RECORDING ARTIST RUDY CURRENCE, TO CONGRATULATE THIS ROCK HILL NATIVE ON HIS MANY PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES FOR CONTINUED SUCCESS IN THE DAYS TO COME.

 

Whereas, Rudy Currence, winner of both the coveted Grammy Award and Dove Award as a producer, is also a Grammy-nominated writer, two-time #1 Billboard recording artist, and 2024 Stellar Award nominee. He is described by his fans as simply "an Experience." The son of a pastor, Rudy is a native of Rock Hill and a graduate of Furman University with a degree in music. In recognition of his celebrated pursuits in the world of music, he recently received a key to the City of Greenville; and

 

Whereas, in addition, Rudy performed on the 37th Stellar Awards, which aired on BET, BET Gospel, and Bounce TV. His previously televised appearances include ABC's The View, Revolt TV, Music Choice, Fox Soul, and The Breakfast Club. Rudy has toured nationally and abroad, appearing at renowned U.S. venues such as the House of Blues, Nashville Music City Center, City Winery, the Soul Train Music Cruise, Blue Bird Café, Cobb Energy Center, and the world-famous Apollo Theatre; and

 

Whereas, Rudy is endorsed by Kawai Piano, the world's second-largest piano distributor, and has over twelve million channel views on YouTube. His artist, songwriter, and producer credits include songs with Quincy Jones, Mya, Ray J, The Bourne Identity (starring Matt Damon), the 2021 NBA All-Stars opening ceremony, David Banner, and more. He's appeared on projects with Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton, Ledisi, Chico DeBarge, Raheem DeVaughn, Donald Lawrence, and Byron Cage. Further, in 2013, Rudy won both Grammy and Dove awards for his production on Lecrae's album, Gravity, and in 2015 was again Grammy-nominated for writing "Sunday AM" for Karen Clark Sheard. He has performed on stages with Kirk Franklin, Erykah Badu, Cee Lo Green, Koryn Hawthorne, Marvin Winans, Jazmine Sullivan, Keke Wyatt, and Regina Belle, to name just a few; and

 

Whereas, in 2017, Rudy's single, "Testimony," exploded onto the gospel charts, quickly rising to Billboard's Top 20. In early 2021, "I Belong Here" captured the #1 Billboard position on the Gospel Airplay charts for two consecutive weeks and the #1 Billboard gospel songwriter spot. Rudy is only the sixth writer ever to hold this coveted title; and

 

Whereas, in late 2021, Rudy released "No Greater Love," featuring Grammy Award-winning recording artist Chrisette Michele. The song peaked at the #1 position on the Billboard Gospel Airplay, Billboard Gospel Indicator, and Mediabase charts, earning Rudy his second #1 Billboard hit. "No Greater Love" was also recognized by Billboard as the ninth-biggest gospel song of 2022. Rudy's highly anticipated album, Stained Glass Windows, was released in April 2023, garnering well over fifteen million streams worldwide. That album included his Top 15 Billboard gospel hit single, "Ransom"; and

 

Whereas, most recently, Rudy and Mike Chek Entertainment partnered with TRIBL Records. To commemorate this joint venture, Rudy has launched a brand-new radio single titled "God Don't Cancel Me," which is currently Top 25 on the Billboard Gospel Airplay charts; and

 

Whereas, proudly claiming him as a son of South Carolina, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in applauding Rudy Currence for his many accomplishments, and the members look with interest to hear of his further success as an award-winning producer, writer, and recording artist. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, celebrate award-winning producer, writer, and recording artist Rudy Currence, congratulate this Rock Hill native on his many professional achievements, and extend best wishes for continued success in the days to come.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Rudy Currence.
