A senate RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE The honorable Vicki Johnson Snelgrove UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT, TO COMMEND HER FOR HER many YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE, AND TO WISH HER MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE YEARS AHEAD.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to recognize The Honorable Vicki Johnson Snelgrove upon the occasion of her retirement from the Second Judicial Circuit; and
Whereas, a native of Aiken, Judge Snelgrove was born to parents B. Henderson Johnson, Jr. and Doris Johnson. She graduated from Aiken High School and received her bachelor's degree in Humanities (English) from the University of South Carolina in 1979. She received her Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1982. While at the USC School of Law, she participated on the Moot Court team and received an award at the national level; and
Whereas, Judge Snelgrove began her career in private practice in Aiken with her father; her brother, Barry; Ronald A. Maxwell; and James E. Whittle, Jr. She remained with that firm until 2010; and
Whereas, during her twenty-seven years of private practice, she was very active with the South Carolina Bar, serving on Family Law Section Council and as its chair from 2007 to 2008. She sat as a member of the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates, served on the South Carolina Bar Board of Governors, served as a member of the Family Law Task Force for the South Carolina Bar, and has spoken at numerous continuing legal education events; and
Whereas, after her years in private practice, Judge Snelgrove was elected Family Court Judge for the Second Judicial Circuit. She assumed her duties in July of 2010; and
Whereas, a leader in her profession, Judge Snelgrove served as a member of the South Carolina Association of Justice, Family Law Section Council and served as its chair in the late 1990s. She was included in The Best Lawyers in America for 2006 through 2010. She also assisted in writing the Family Law Tool Kit (2003 and 2010 editions). While serving on the Family Law Section Council, she assisted in developing the current Financial Declaration; and
Whereas, a dedicated Christian, she is a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she has served as vice-chair of the congregation and participated in a mission trip to Haiti; and
Whereas, Judge Snelgrove is married to Von Pope Snelgrove, and together, they have two daughters, Beverly and the late Leigh Snelgrove; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the passion and dedication that Judge Snelgrove has shown in serving the people and the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate The Honorable Vicki Johnson Snelgrove upon the occasion of her retirement, commend her for her many years of dedicated service, and wish her much happiness and fulfillment in the years ahead.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to The Honorable Vicki Johnson Snelgrove.
