TO AMEND CHAPTER 23, TITLE 57, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING ARTICLE 17 SO AS TO DESIGNATE A PORTION OF U. S. HIGHWAY 17 IN BEAUFORT COUNTY AS "U. S. HIGHWAY 17-ACE BASIN SCENIC HIGHWAY".
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 23, Title 57, of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
Section 57-23-810. U.S. Highway 17 in Beaufort and Colleton Counties from the intersection of U.S. 17-A at Pocotaligo to the intersection of State Road 64 at Jacksonboro is designated as a scenic highway to be known as the `U.S. Highway 17-ACE Basin Scenic Highway'. The State Department of Highways and Public Transportation, the Department of Archives and History, and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism shall cooperate in the installation of appropriate markers and signs to implement the above designation.
Section 57-23-820. No trees in excess of a six-inch caliper located within the highway right-of-way of this scenic highway may be removed without the permission of the Department of Highways and Public Transportation upon the recommendation of the governing councils of the counties of Beaufort and Colleton."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
