TO COMMEND REVEREND WILBURN BEASLEY OF TURBEVILLE, A LEGEND IN THE FREE WILL BAPTIST CHURCH, FOR A LIFETIME OF SERVICE AS A MINISTER AND COMMUNITY LEADER IN SOUTH CAROLINA AND THE SOUTHEAST.
Whereas, the Reverend Wilburn Beasley is one of South Carolina's most distinguished pastors and church leaders; and
Whereas, he is a native of Winfield, Alabama, received his preparatory education in Alabama, and received his college training in Nashville, Tennessee; and
Whereas, after high school, Reverend Beasley worked in Alabama in various capacities and became a full-time minister in Tupelo, Mississippi, in 1954; and
Whereas, after another pastorate in Georgia, he moved to South Carolina in 1967 as the pastor of the Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church where he served until his retirement in 1981; and
Whereas, Reverend Beasley has held many positions in the local, state, and national levels of the Free Will Baptist denomination, and since his retirement, has remained a source of wisdom and inspiration to his many friends and colleagues; and
Whereas, Reverend Beasley celebrated his eightieth birthday on June 2, 1997, and he is blessed with a large and wonderful family which includes children Betty Creech, Jan McElveen, and James Beasley, six grandsons, one granddaughter, and two great grandchildren; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and thank this truly outstanding South Carolinian for his countless contributions to his church, family, and community and for the example he has set as a man of God. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend Reverend Wilburn Beasley of Turbeville, a legend in the Free Will Baptist Church, for a lifetime of service as a minister and community leader in South Carolina and the Southeast.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Wilburn Beasley.
