To whom was referred a Bill (H. 3229) to amend the Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, by adding Section 10-1-168 so as to authorize an object containing the words of the Ten Commandments, etc., respectfully

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 10-1-168 SO AS TO AUTHORIZE AN OBJECT CONTAINING THE WORDS OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS TO BE DISPLAYED ON REAL PROPERTY OWNED BY THE STATE ALONG WITH OTHER DOCUMENTS OF HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE THAT HAVE FORMED AND INFLUENCED THE UNITED STATES LEGAL OR GOVERNMENTAL SYSTEM.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 1, Title 10 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 10-1-168. An object containing the words of the Ten Commandments may be displayed on real property owned by the State along with other documents of historical significance that have formed and influenced the United States legal or governmental system. The display of an object containing the words of the Ten Commandments must be in the same manner and appearance generally as other documents and objects displayed and must not be presented or displayed in any fashion that results in calling attention to it apart from the other displayed documents and objects."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
