A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE DAVID "DAVE" CAMPBELL BECKHAM, SR., FOR FIFTY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA MILITARY DEPARTMENT, AND TO COMMEND HIM AS THE VOICE OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA NATIONAL GUARD.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly take pleasure in recognizing David Campbell Beckham, a native of St. Matthews, who has devoted his career to the South Carolina Military Department; and

Whereas, Dave Beckham left St. Matthews after high school and completed his freshman year at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina; then he returned home to help his father on the family farm; and

Whereas, in 1957, he began his military career, and seven years later on August 1, 1964, he married his beloved Catherine. Together they have raised four fine children: David Campbell Beckham, Jr., Amy Beckham Morris, George Christian Beckham, and Michael Beckham; and

Whereas, Dave Beckham retired from the military in 1998 at the age of sixty, and although he sincerely enjoys yard work, he realized that retirement was not what he wanted when his wife bought him a vacuum cleaner as a retirement gift; and

Whereas, in October 1998, he began his new career of handling all the incoming calls for the military department, and immediately his rich baritone voice became a trademark for the department; and

Whereas, following the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001, he became an even stronger advocate to ensure that all of South Carolina's military installations were prepared to help troops call their loved ones from overseas; and

Whereas, Dave Beckham has received numerous awards for admirable service, including the National Guard Bureau Sergeant Major's Award, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the South Carolina Meritorious Service Medal; the members of the General Assembly take genuine pride in recognizing his long and distinguished service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate David "Dave" Campbell Beckham, Sr., for fifty years of service to the South Carolina Military Department, and commend him as the voice of the South Carolina National Guard.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to David Campbell Beckham, Sr.
