A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CELEBRATE THE TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, LICENSING AND REGULATION AS A STATE AGENCY AND TO COMMEND DIRECTOR EMILY H. FARR, THE AGENCY'S EMPLOYEES, AND ALL FORMER AGENCY LEADERS AND PUBLIC SERVANTS WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE AGENCY'S SUCCESSES.

Whereas, in 1993, the State Legislature adopted the South Carolina Restructuring Act, which created the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, effective February 1, 1994; and

Whereas, the new agency brought together the South Carolina Department of Labor, the State Fire Marshal's Office, the South Carolina Fire Academy, and thirty-eight professional and occupational licensing boards; and

Whereas, today, the agency's Division of Professional and Occupational Licensing administers forty-two professional and occupational boards that serve more than four hundred thousand licensees; and

Whereas, the agency also serves as the State's focal point for service and support to save life and property, providing a statewide delivery system to prevent, protect, train, and respond, through its Division of Fire and Life Safety, State Fire; and

Whereas, in the areas of worker safety and compliance with state labor laws, the agency carries out its responsibilities through its Division of Occupational and Health Safety Administration and its offices of Elevators and Amusement Rides, Immigration Compliance, and Payment of Wages and Child Labor; and

Whereas, through the management and leadership of its varied programs, the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation touches every citizen of our great State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation on the occasion of its twenty-fifth anniversary as a state agency and commend the agency and its employees for their commitment to making South Carolina a safe place to work and live.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.
