AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 50-11-180, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE PROHIBITION ON THE TRAPPING OR SNARING OF QUAIL, SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY THE WILDLIFE AND MARINE RESOURCES DEPARTMENT TO TRAP QUAIL; AND TO AMEND SECTION 50-11-120, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE HUNTING SEASONS FOR SMALL GAME, SO AS TO REVISE THE QUAIL SEASON IN GAME ZONE 8.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

Permits to trap quail

SECTION 1. Section 50-11-180 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Section 1262, Act 181 of 1993, is further amended to read:

"Section 50-11-180. The trapping or snaring of quail is prohibited except as permitted by the department for scientific or propagation purposes. Requests for quail trapping permits must be accompanied by proof of property ownership or lease-hold interest for the property upon which the quail traps are to be operated, a county or highway map designating the location of the property, and an aerial photo, a tax map, or a plan designating property boundaries. The department may deny or revoke a permit in its discretion."

Quail season in Game Zone 8 revised

SECTION 2. Section 50-11-120(A)(8)(e) of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Section 1262, Act 181 of 1993, is further amended to read:

"(e) quail: October first through the day before Thanksgiving Day without weapons; Thanksgiving Day through March fifteenth with weapons;"

SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
