AN ACT TO AMEND ACT 779 OF 1988, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO LAURENS COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTS 55 AND 56, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE ELECTIONS FOR SCHOOL BOARDS OF TRUSTEES FOR THE DISTRICTS MUST BE HELD AT THE TIME OF THE GENERAL ELECTION INSTEAD OF THE SECOND TUESDAY OF MARCH, IN APPROPRIATE YEARS, BEGINNING IN 2010 AND 2012.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Time of election changed
SECTION 1. Section 1(F) of Act 779 of 1988, as last amended by Act 146 of 2003, is further amended to read:
"(F) An election to elect a school board trustee must be held at the time of the general election beginning in 2010, by the Laurens County Election Commission in Laurens County School District 55, Election Districts 2, 4, and 6 as described in this section. The trustees elected in each district shall take office on December 1, 2010, and shall serve a four-year term. After that election, successors must be elected for regular four-year terms at elections to be held at the time of the general election of the appropriate year to take office on December first."

SECTION 4. Section 2(G) of Act 779 of 1988, as last amended by Act 146 of 2003, is further amended to read:

Time effective
SECTION 5. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
