THE COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORTATION

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE PORTION OF THE STATE FARM TO MARKET ROAD #31 IN HORRY COUNTY, FROM ITS INTERSECTION WITH SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 905 TO THE TOWN OF LORIS, THE "SERGEANT HENRY ODELL STALVEY, JR. MEMORIAL ROAD" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS ALONG THIS ROAD THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS "SERGEANT HENRY ODELL STALVEY, JR. MEMORIAL ROAD".

Whereas, Sergeant Henry Odell Stalvey, Jr., was born on September 9, 1948, the eighth of ten children to Henry Odell Stalvey, Sr., and Cecil Chestnut Stalvey in the Red Bluff Community of Horry County; and

Whereas, Sergeant Stalvey was a farmer prior to joining the Horry County Police Department on May 2, 1977; and

Whereas, he was promoted to corporal on March 7, 1984, and to the rank of sergeant on November 14, 1984; and

Whereas, Sergeant Stalvey received the Horry County Police Officer of the Year Award on December 19, 1984, for his outstanding service as a law enforcement officer; and

Whereas, tragically, he lost his life in the line of duty on September 12, 1986, leaving five sons and the citizens of Horry County to mourn his loss; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General Assembly to pay a lasting tribute to this fallen hero by having a road in his native Horry County named in his honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution request that the Department of Transportation name the portion of the State Farm to Market Road #31 in Horry County from its intersection with South Carolina Highway 905 to the Town of Loris the "Sergeant Henry Odell Stalvey, Jr. Memorial Road" and erect appropriate markers or signs along this road that contain the words "Sergeant Henry Odell Stalvey, Jr. Memorial Road".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
