TO PROVIDE THAT THE STATE SHALL FOREGO ANY COMMISSION OR OTHER SOURCE OF REVENUE DERIVED FROM THE PLACEMENT OF PAY TELEPHONES IN INSTITUTIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS AND THE DEPARTMENT OF JUVENILE JUSTICE FOR THE USE OF INMATES AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE STATE BUDGET AND CONTROL BOARD SHALL ENSURE THAT THE TELEPHONE RATES CHARGED FOR THE USE OF THESE PAY PHONES REASONABLY REFLECT THIS FOREGONE STATE REVENUE.
Amend Title To Conform
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the State shall forego any commissions or revenues for the provision of pay telephones in institutions of the Department of Corrections and the Department of Juvenile Justice for use by inmates. The State Budget and Control Board shall ensure that the telephone rates charged by vendors for the use of those phones must be reduced to reflect this foregone state revenue.
SECTION 2. This act takes effect July 1, 2007.
