The Senate assembled at 2:00 P.M., the hour to which it stood adjourned, and was called to order by the PRESIDENT.
A quorum being present, the proceedings were opened with a devotion by the Chaplain as follows:
The Psalmist declares:
"Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin." (Psalm 51:1-2)
Friends, please join me as we bow in prayer:
Holy God, as those who wish to honor You, it is always fitting for us to pause and to reflect on how we live our lives, how we spend our time, and how far short we fall of Your expectations of us. We do acknowledge our sinfulness, Lord, even here in the Senate of South Carolina. We beseech You to forgive us for our failures to be the women and men You would have us be. By Your grace enable us always to live and to serve more faithfully. In Your precious name we pray, dear Lord.
Amen.
