The Senate assembled at 12:00 Noon, the hour to which it stood adjourned, and was called to order by the PRESIDENT.

A quorum being present, the proceedings were opened with a devotion by the Chaplain as follows:

The Psalmist declares:

"How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!"

(Psalm 133:1)

Please, pray with me:

Holy God, how tragic so much of life often turns out to be. Though we indeed are to live as one, in unity, again and again events remind us how far we sisters and brothers are from being the children You call us to be. The recent shooting on the South Carolina State campus brings us up short; similar tragedies across our counties also shock and wound our collective spirit. Dear Lord, embrace all of the citizens of our State in Your loving arms. Hold us tightly. Keep our children and our friends safe. Lead this Senate to do all that it can to promote an atmosphere wherein we all indeed are "one." In Your loving name we pray this, O Lord. Amen.

The PRESIDENT called for Petitions, Memorials, Presentments of Grand Juries and such like papers.
